Director of the Medical Research Council-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research; Professorship of Virology
The Medical Research Council (MRC)-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR) was established in 2010 through combining the strengths of the MRC Virology Unit with the University of Glasgow’s virology research. The CVR’s mission is to carry out multidisciplinary research on viruses, vectors and viral diseases of humans and animals, translating the knowledge gained for the improvement of health and benefit of society. The CVR currently undertakes research covering a broad spectrum of topics: these include chronic and community acquired viral infections, host immunity to virus infection, emerging and zoonotic virus infections, structural virology, and virus genomics & bioinformatics.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a leader with an international reputation for research excellence to lead the CVR as both Director and Professor of Virology; this position is jointly funded by the MRC and University of Glasgow. The Director sets the CVR’s overall strategy and ensures delivery, with long-term core funding provided by the MRC, complemented by financial support from the University of Glasgow and additional competitive grant awards. The Director is also responsible for maintaining and extending the CVR’s leading edge contributions to world-class virology research, and ensuring that outputs remain at the international forefront. Furthermore, the Director supports a key MRC and University strategic objective to train the next generation of scientists. Contribution to excellence in research will encompass international leadership in your relevant subject area through originality in research and scholarship and advancement of knowledge.
