On August 14h our colleague and dear friend Paolo Cordioli (58 year old) passed away after a few months of illness.

Paolo was born in Mantova , Italy in 1956. Studied veterinary medicine at the University of Parma (1976-1981) and since 1985 he was working at the Department of Virology of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia e dell’Emilia Romagna (IZSLER) in Brescia, where he was the responsible, as well as a very active member of the ESVV. Paolo had a deep

knowledge and expertise in the “classic” virology associated with an open mind and a scientific curiosity also towards the world of technological innovations. The veterinary virology family has missed an invaluable researcher and a great person.

Paolo was a remarkable person of immense generosity, extraordinary manners and great passion. All the membes of the veterinary virology family are deeply saddened by his passing. Those of us who had the great fortune to interact with him closely and share with he many good times will remember his lovely personality. He was always available to give us guidance and advice, listen to our problems, negotiating and mediating with differents colleagues and smile at the challenges of life. We will miss him as a colleague and as a friend of many years of collaborative work. We have lost an excellent professional and a great friend.

Unfortunately Paolo has left us forever, but he leaves us with the lasting memory of his dedication, generosity, love for his profession and passion for veterinary virology. Paolo at the ESVV we always will be remember you.

At this sad time, we would like to send all our love to his wife Chiara, his son Tommaso and his daughters Rachele and Benedetta.

Rest in Peace, dear friend.
